The oleander is one of the most flowering plants on Mallorca. But also a very thirsty one
.If you drive across the island by car, you practically cannot avoid oleander. The flowering (and apparently exhaust gas-resistant) ornamental plant is often planted along highways and expressways to decorate the central reservation. But the oleander also thrives in public parks and private gardens on the island. Its eye-catching flowers in particular, whose color nuances are available in countless colors and variations thanks to around 400 oleander varieties, make this typical Mediterranean plant a real eye-catcher.
Oleander is very thirsty by nature. From June to October in particular, it should be watered abundantly both as an ornamental plant and in the ground, up to three times in 24 hours on very hot days.
The plant also loves calcareous soil and therefore calcareous tap water. Lukewarm watering also promotes the formation of flowers.
In order for the oleander to thrive, it should be watered regularly. Between March and September, it can tolerate a watering with water and liquid fertilizer up to twice a week. This fitness treatment ensures lush green leaves, dense foliage and vigorous new leaf formation.
Oleander plants are available in various sizes in almost all garden centers on the island and can be planted in the ground or pots all year round.
