Glass oases, awning systems and more...¨berwintern auf der eigenen Terrasse
Bioclimatic pergolas, elegant glass oases and ultra-modern awning systems from the company "f&b Mosquiteras" transform every season on Mallorca, no matter how cold, into an eternal spring.
Living in Mallorca – means above all enjoying the sun. And as we all know, that's only possible outside in front of the door. But even on a sun-drenched Mediterranean island, it can be uncomfortable in the garden between the end of November and the beginning of May. Wind, rain and temperatures that are perceived as freezing cold even by hardy Central and Northern Europeans due to the high humidity turn any outdoor area of a property, no matter how beautiful, into a no-go.
Terrace roofs in the form of glass oases, awnings or pergolas offer a way to enjoy the Mediterranean open-air feeling despite adverse weather conditions. One of the largest and longest-standing German suppliers of terrace roofing and window grilles is the company "f&b", based in the Son Bugadelles industrial estate near Santa Ponsa. Hardly any other company on the island has such a diverse range of high-quality, customizable awning and pergola systems. One of the innovations from "f&b" is the so-called bioclimatic pergola. The highlight: the slats of the pergola roof open and close depending on the weather and temperature. For example, if the solar radiation is high, the slats are opened to prevent a greenhouse effect. During storms, rain, cold and wind, on the other hand, the slats close again so that it stays cozy under the roof.
With the help of additional vertical awnings or side glazing, these high-tech pergolas can be used to create weather-independent, habitable outdoor areas.
Cold winter gardens without strict building regulations
The glass oases from the German premium manufacturer Weinor have also been on offer at "f&b" for many years. In contrast to the winter gardens known in Germany, glass oases do not require any structural approval, as they are not brick-built and insulated extensions but so-called cold winter gardens. Glass oases extend the living space and prolong the outdoor season considerably. This is because the patio can often be used very well from before the start of spring until late in the fall. Even on sunny winter days, cold winter gardens store enough heat to make your stay pleasant. And: thanks to flexible sliding glass doors, which can also be frameless if required, the conservatory can be transformed from a closed glass house into an open garden area in no time at all.
Another advantage: the easy-to-clean running rails are trip and barrier-free.
Shade: not just a must in summer
Shading with awnings is usually essential for a conservatory to ensure that the temperatures in the closed room or under the glass roof always remain pleasant. And not just in summer. Textile sun protection is also important during the transitional seasons and in winter to prevent the room from heating up. External awnings offer the best protection from the heat, while awnings fitted under the glass are better protected from the weather.
Light and warmth for cozy evenings
Integrated lighting and radiant heaters are the perfect additions to a versatile glass oasis. They create a pleasant atmosphere and comfortable temperatures when it gets dark and cold outside. In terms of light, systems that are discreetly integrated into the profiles of a glass roof are elegant. Radio remote controls are best suited for convenient control of sun protection, heating and light. Integration into smart home technology is also possible.
A third option for open-air enjoyment in the Mallorcan winter are so-called convertible awnings, also part of the outdoor "f&b" roofing range in Santa Ponsa. „Compared to normal textile awnings, for example, these are also suitable for heavier rainfall“, says Managing Director Holger Fischer All you need to do is ensure an angle of inclination of at least eight degrees during installation so that the rainwater is drained away safely. The awning is supported by vertical profiles.
To prevent rainwater from dripping from the cover onto the patio, it is fed into a rain gutter and drained away through the integrated water drain in the post. As with modern convertibles, a motor drive ensures convenient operation. Weather sensors can also be used to automate extension and retraction depending on the current weather conditions.
Expandable thanks to substructure elements
„If you want even better weather protection for your patio, you can extend the pergola awning with various components,
