?When it comes to choosing the right heat source, many a resident is at a loss. Experts from "Balear Haustechnik" and "Energia Tömke" explain what is important when it comes to heating.
Central heating, infrared or panel heating? Heat pump, air conditioning or wood-burning stove? Choosing the right heating system is a stress test for many second home and vacation home owners every year. Which system makes sense in terms of the expected costs and installation effort? Do you really need a heating system that covers the entire room if you are only going to be living on the island for a few weeks anyway?

These and other questions about choosing the perfect "Mallorca heating" are not easy to answer. Thorsten Schüssler, managing director of the company "Balear Haustechnik", which specializes in air conditioning, solar, heating and sanitary technology, and Wolfram Tömke, owner of the energy and building technology company of the same name, have nevertheless tried.
Expert advice is essential
One thing straight away: There is no such thing as an "egg-laying, wool-milk sow" and there are no options for heating your island home. The best heating option varies from property to property. For this reason, house and apartment owners should always seek advice in advance. And from heating professionals with many years of experience on the island", advises Wolfram Tömke.
The right mix of heating and ventilation
I recommend the installation of air-to-water heat pumps, which, as underfloor heating or radiators, ensure even heat distribution in the house, says Thorsten Schüssler. And: "To achieve a perfect, homogeneous feeling of warmth in the house, you need a combination of heating and controlled ventilation". Not to forget: It is particularly important to keep the humidity, which is much higher on the island than in Germany, as low as possible, says Schüssler. Wolfram Tömke also advises not to ignore the solar thermal aspect when choosing a heating system. Especially on a sunny island like Mallorca, solar-powered systems are a very good alternative".
In principle, the decision to choose a heating system naturally depends primarily on the associated costs. "This aspect in particular should be taken into account when making the choice" , says Thorsten Schüssler from "Balear Haustechnik". Wolfram Tömke from the specialist building services company "Tömke" agrees. Anyone planning a new heating system for their single-family home usually only has two starting points for their considerations: their own budget or the long-term heating costs.
