Ralf Heitkamp, Managing Director of "Nolte Home Studio" on Mallorca, explains what's hot between the stove and the fridge this year.

Like other areas of home furnishings, kitchens are subject to new trends every year in terms of design, colors, materials and technical features. Ralf Heitkamp, Managing Director of the two "Nolte Home Studio" in Manacor and Santa Ponsa, explains what is important between the stove and fridge this year.

Colors and design

The classic white kitchen is a thing of the past. The trend towards dark fronts that began in recent years is continuing. Black, anthracite and gray give kitchens an elegant, sophisticated look," explains Ralf Heitkamp. Autumnal rust red is also very popular at the moment as a color for cabinets and shelves. And: only pots and pans and crockery are allowed to shine in the kitchen. "Matt is the new glossy", says Heitkamp. "Surfaces therefore appear elegant and timeless".

Thanks to the anti-fingerprint coating, fingerprints are no longer visible. This saves constant cleaning, as is usually the case with high-gloss surfaces. In terms of materials, cement, concrete decors or wood are still in vogue.

It also works without handles

The modern kitchen can also do without handles in 2021. Instead, cabinets, drawers, flaps and appliances are opened using push-to-open technology. And also closed again. Due to the complete absence of protruding handles, the kitchen looks as if it has been cast from a single mold. And therefore also contributes to the filigree elegance that is currently in vogue," explains Ralf Heitkamp. Kitchens are increasingly becoming the focal point of everyday life. Spacious  "kitchen islands", where you can not only chop, stir or otherwise prepare ingredients from all sides, but also sit, chat and drink, are still very much in vogue.

Technology and gadgets
Bauen und Wohnen
Of course, so-called smart home technology, i.e. the control and management of home technology via the internet and cell phone, has not stopped at the kitchen . Baking ovens can now be preheated on the way home using a cell phone. According to Heitkamp, a useful gadget would be the self-shopping fridge – cameras ümonitor whether it might be time to go to the supermarket. Whether this all makes sense in everyday practice remains to be seen.
What is certain, however, is this: 2021 is not a good year for extractor hoods on ceilings and walls. As in previous years, hob extractors, which extract cooking or frying vapors directly from the hob, are still on the rise, says Heitkamp. Not least because they provide more headroom when cooking.
