Decision before moving - Where is the best place to live in Mallorca?

Moving is a far-reaching decision - check beforehand which location suits you best!

It's hard to believe, but even on a supposedly small island, it's easy to lose sight of the bigger picture as soon as you stop looking at it from the window of an airplane. The location of a suitable site for your Mallorca home also plays such an important role, because crowds of holidaymakers in the height of summer and the very limited public transport can lead to long and sometimes tedious travel times from A to B. In addition, a whole range of other factors are decisive when choosing a location.

How often on the island
Before you decide on a property in Mallorca, you should ask yourself for what period of the year you want to use it. If your visits to the island are only sporadic, buying a high-maintenance villa or finca with a large plot and pool may be the wrong choice. If, on the other hand, you want to make your home on the island for a longer period of time, a village house is a good and practical alternative.

But: If you are neither a village nor a country person, want to go shopping and value good restaurants, cinemas and cultural entertainment, then you should always look towards Palma when choosing your property location. In the winter months in particular, many places away from the capital city are a dead zone“.

Anyone who commutes frequently between home and Mallorca will also quickly appreciate the proximity of their island home to Mallorca's airport. Not to mention its visitors. The Palma area may also be an advantage as a real estate location for foreigners who want to do business on the island. Almost all authorities and institutions can be found in the capital. A quick trip from Pollensa to Palma and back to do important paperwork can sometimes take two hours.

What does your family need?

Do you have children who need to go to school in Mallorca? The answers to these and other questions regarding the family's living requirements should also be taken into account when choosing a property location in Mallorca. Although every major town on the island has a public school, those who prefer an international school education for their children should also look towards Palma or the southwest.

Schön but humid by the sea

Anyone who decides to live near the sea - preferably in the first place - should take two things into account. The prices for unobstructed sea view properties, whether apartments, apartments or villas, have reached astronomical heights in recent years. And: according to estimates by a well-known German real estate agent, around 50 percent of all foreign residents with a sea view are fed up with salt-encrusted patio furniture, oxidized chrome fittings and ever-damp wardrobes after a year at the latest.
