More property tax discount for photovoltaics on Mallorca
The city of Palma de Mallorca is taking a step towards sustainability by granting residents who install solar panels or similar thermo-electric devices a 100 percent discount on property tax (IBI) for six years. This replaces the previous bonus of 50 percent for three years and applies to both residential and non-residential buildings with photovoltaics. The measure is part of a policy to make Palma a sustainable and environmentally friendly city.
However, the IBI rebate has an upper limit of 12,000 euros for large properties on which photovoltaic or energy-saving measures are carried out. This is intended to prevent the tax reduction from exceeding the investment made. In addition, an extended bonus period of ten instead of six years with a 50 percent discount for new photovoltaic installations applies to subsidized residential construction in Palma de Mallorca. This measure is part of Palma's policy in the fight against climate change.
Further property tax discounts for the installation of solar panels on Mallorca and the neighboring islands are available in Sóller (15 percent at least for 2023), Ibiza Town (15 percent at least for 2023), Ibiza Town (15 percent at least for 2023) and the neighboring islands;for 2023), Ibiza Town, Alcúdia, Inca, Capdepera (50 percent each over three years) or in Mahón on Menorca (90 percent in the first five years).
Other regulations are more of a hindrance to the expansion of photovoltaics on Mallorca: for example, the use of cement is prohibited on certain outdoor areas ("suelo rústico").
