Fruit and vegetables from your own garden are healthy and fun. This month marks the start of sowing for many varieties. But each plant has its own special requirements.
When spring knocks on the door and the days slowly get warmer, hobby gardeners are already in the starting blocks, because everyone who owns a kitchen garden knows this: March is the classic month for sowing. This is the time to lay the foundations for summer salads and grilled vegetables from your own harvest. Our experts at Can Juanito have a few tips for you. Here's how to get a rich supply of vegetables from your own garden.
What to plant in March?
With the end of the bad weather and the arrival of the sun, we have many opportunities to prepare the field or garden.
Preparation
To create optimal conditions, the planting area should first be fertilized with organic products (mulch, compost, humus, etc.). As soon as the maintenance work has been completed, we can start planting the desired fruit and vegetable varieties.
Vegetables – limitless choice
Classic vegetables for sowing include tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, cucumbers, zucchinis... A basic distinction is made between tall-growing and ground-growing vegetables.
One of the favorites is still the tomato, a plant that should not be missing in any vegetable garden because it provides us with many vitamins and nutrients. It grows very tall and must therefore be cultivated and cared for in such a way that it does not creep on the ground, but finds its way upwards.
In contrast, other vegetables such as eggplants, artichokes and zucchinis creep along the ground and therefore need a greater distance: 100 x 50 cm is ideal.
The situation is similar with other climbing plants such as pumpkins, melons, watermelons, etc.
. For watermelons, a distance of 150 x 100 cm must be maintained so that they can move around.
Lettuce and spinach can be planted closer together in spring and summer. The distance between the plants should be 40 x 30 cm.
If you grow different crops, you will also have a corresponding variety of seasonal fruit and vegetables.
In addition, you will have a clear conscience that you have grown them in your own garden.
