Investors from abroad are buying more and more properties in Spain. In the last two quarters in particular, land registries across the country recorded new records. From July to September alone, purchases and sales by foreigners reached almost 16 percent. By comparison, the average level in previous years was 12 to 14 percent.
Germans in 2nd placeThe Germans are in second place in this ranking with a share of 8 percent, just behind the British with 9.3 percent. They are followed by the French (6.2%), Rumanians (4.6%), Belgians (4.3%) and Dutch (4.1%).
Balearic Islands popular
The autonomous communities of the Canary Islands, Balearic Islands, Valencia, Murcia, Andalusia and Catalonia were particularly popular with foreign property buyers. In the Mediterranean and the islands, Alicante, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Malaga and the Balearic Islands were among the favorites for house and apartment buyers. In these four provinces, at least 30 percent of all real estate transactions in the third quarter of 2022 were made by a foreign buyer or were related to one. Their share in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Alicante even reaches more than 40 percent.
The regions of La Coruña, Lugo, Salamanca, León, Ourense and Pontevedra were less popular with foreign property buyers. Here, the share accounted for less than 1.2 percent of all transactions.
